We had a busy week starting all our subjects and getting to know each other through our brown bag and “Guess Who” activities. What a great group of students I have this year!
Math – rounded numbers, worked with writing numbers in three different forms, and reading numbers to a million. Some students will have homework to correct this weekend or an additional worksheet if they had difficulty with math this week. Please ask your student. Homework should always be turned in the following morning for correction.
Vocabulary and Grammar – reviewed punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.
Spelling – The first test was today. Spelling words will always come home on Monday for a test on Friday.
Writing – making lists of ideas relating to special people, places, and strong emotions for beginning a personal narrative essay.
Reading – discussing when is our reading the best? We are working on answering this big question, and developing strong reading strategies and techniques. Scholastic book orders were sent home this week, and orders are due September 29. Click the link on the side of my blog to order.
Economics – What is supply and demand? What is a free market economy? How do we develop a business plan? What is the business we want to create for our Market Day in two weeks?
Parents, be sure to ask your student about their market day project due on September 22. This is a big event in fourth grade. A letter was sent home on green paper describing the project. It is the only project during the year that may involve a little help from a parent — perhaps dropping your student off that morning or bringing them to a store to pick up a few items. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
Thank you for entrusting me with your super students. I am looking forward to a great year. Let’s be thankful for our beautiful weather this weekend, and prayerful for those being hit by Hurricane Irma.
